For almost all of you out there in the paranormal world I am sure the term "Paranormal Unity" has come up many times. The main topic of this blog will be "Paranormal Unity Groups". Before we start, I would like to say my "opinion" in this matter is based on a majority of unity groups that I have encountered during my 20 plus years in the paranormal but I am in no way saying that there aren't any good unity groups out there.
To change things up a bit, I will be writing this blog in a question and answer type style. Here we go!
What is a Paranormal Unity Group? Basically, it is a person(s) or a paranormal group who's mission is to advance research in the paranormal field by helping or requiring members of its group to work together and share information.
Well that sounds like a good thing right? Paranormal unity as with almost any type of unity in any type of field is a good thing if done properly.
Are you suggesting that many of the unity groups out there are not doing this properly? Correct. Many of the groups I have seen who present themselves as PUGS (Paranormal Unity Groups) often do more dictating than they do helping. Many times they require their member groups to post information such as cases they are working on, take along members of other groups, get permission from the unity group to work their own cases and so on. Because of this, these so called PUGS have gotten a rather bad name in the paranormal field.
What would be considered by you to be a good PUG? In my opinion a good PUG would be one that would encourage (Not Dictate) its members to share evidence (Not case specifics) with each other so they could find similarities to certain situations and start building firm data regarding those findings.
How could this best be carried out? The best way I could see to handle this would be to establish a global database where groups could register then using an established information form could post evidence or research others posts. These posts would be categorized by type such as evp, photographic, video, personal experience and so on.
Why do you think this has not been done already? Cost. Operating a database such as this on a server will require a monthly fee for hosting, data storage, site upkeep and support. Until someone is willing to front those month to month costs, this project will continue to be on our wish list.
In short my friends, paranormal unity is something that can be beneficial to us all if handled correctly. However, do not ever let any PUG or anyone else try and tell you how you can or should handle your investigations. The paranormal is an emerging science and we are all still just trying to figure it out. The only experts here are the ghosts and they aren't always talking or upfront with us so keep on chattering para peeps.
